Fashion editors or trendy girls aiming for Instagram-worthy looks: recognition in fashion can come from either, but British-Indian designer Supriya Lele effortlessly appeals to both. Lele, a British designer, was born to Indian immigrant parents.

During the lockdown, when most of the world stayed indoors, her designs captured the sunny allure of a day beneath clear skies.

Over the years, this designer has become a favorite with influential figures. When someone as legendary as Rihanna keeps coming back for more, you know there’s something special. But the true measure of success goes beyond that.

Take a closer look, you’ll notice that Lele’s creations reflect her mixed heritage, drawing inspiration from the club culture of the 2000s.

Supriya Lele is gaining popularity, with celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa frequently seen wearing her designs. Now, Kylie has joined the ranks of Supriya Lele fans.

In a recent promotional event for a new Kylie Cosmetics product, Jenner sported a sheer lilac crop top and skirt from Supriya Lele’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, showcased at London Fashion Week.

While Lele often incorporates her background as a woman of color and her British-Indian heritage into her designs, her Spring/Summer 2024 collection took a more personal turn.

Inspired by her childhood spent in India during holidays, she drew from memories of admiring the draped saris worn by the elders in her family, the lilac tones of her friend’s lipsticks, and the lush green hues of eyeshadows.

Lele’s collection started with a fresh perspective on the sari, moving away from colonial influences. Instead, it embraced a new sense of femininity inspired by the aesthetics of the Noughties era. Featuring sheer dresses and deconstructed two-piece sets that echoed the sari’s folds, the collection offered a unique take.

Leather jackets, made from leftover materials from Bentley Motors, were also introduced to keep the Lele girls warm during London’s cold weather.

From being a finalist for the LVMH prize in 2020 to becoming a favorite among stars, the designer’s ascent is remarkable.
