Taylor Swift’s latest song, “imgonnagetyouback,” from her album The Tortured Poets Department, is being compared to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back!” Fans are drawing parallels to their previous dispute, linking it to “Cruel Summer” and “Deja Vu.”

Swift’s latest song, featured on the latter part of her unexpected double album “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” plays with the phrase “get you back.” Will she reconcile with her partner or seek retaliation?

On the chorus Swift, 34, sings: “Whether I’m gonna be your wife or / Gonna smash up your bike, I haven’t decided yet / But I’m gonna get you back / Whether I’m gonna curse you out or / Take you back to my house, I haven’t decidеd yet / But I’m gonna get you back.”

It quickly led to people comparing it to Rodrigo’s song, “Get Him Back!”, where the 21-year-old employs similar wordplay. The track, which she unveiled in September 2023, showcases Rodrigo singing in the chorus, “I wanna get him back / I wanna make him really jealous, wanna make him feel bad / Oh, I wanna get him back / ‘Cause then again, I really miss him, and it makes me real sad / Oh, I want sweet revenge.”

Rodrigo was a self-proclaimed superfan of Swift while growing up. In early 2021, Swift showed her support by sending Rodrigo a handwritten note and personalized gifts to celebrate the success of “Driver’s License.”

Rodrigo continued to praise Swift while promoting her own music. However, their friendship may have faced challenges when Rodrigo released “Deja Vu” as her second single in April 2021.

Swift, along with her co-writers Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent, were later acknowledged for their contribution to the track because of its similarities to Swift’s “Cruel Summer.” According to Billboard, Rodrigo relinquished “millions” in royalties for the song.

Since then, she and Swift haven’t publicly interacted, and she mentioned that she wasn’t deeply involved in dealing with the legal issue. She explained to Rolling Stone in September 2023 that it was mainly handled between teams, so she wouldn’t be the best person to provide detailed information about it.

She confessed to feeling surprised by the unexpected additions to her songwriting credits, which included Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Josh Farro receiving retroactive credit on “Good 4 U” due to comparisons with “Misery Business.”

Rodrigo added that at the time, it was very confusing for her, and she felt inexperienced and enthusiastic.

However, she emphasized that there’s no feud with Swift. She mentioned being very laid-back, mostly keeping to herself. Her circle is small, consisting of just her four friends and her mom, and she doesn’t engage with many other people.
