Sailor Brinkley Cook, the daughter of supermodel Christie Brinkley, is following in her mom’s footsteps in the world of fashion modeling. But Sailor’s journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing.

Raised away from the city lights, Sailor initially had other career aspirations, but eventually embraced modeling in her teens. Despite her success, Sailor has also opened up about her struggles with body image and an eating disorder.

Sailor, now 25, is the daughter of Brinkley, a former model who graced the pages of Sports Illustrated, and Peter Cook, an architect.

Brinkley and Cook got married in 1996 but parted ways in 2008. Sailor was born through IVF when Brinkley was 44. Her family tree branches out to include two half-siblings: Alexa Ray Joel (from Brinkley’s dalliance with Billy Joel) and Jack Paris Brinkley Cook (Brinkley’s little one with ex-husband Richard Taubman).

Sailor’s childhood was far from the city’s glitz and glamor. Instead, she called Sag Harbor, a serene spot nestled in the Hamptons of Long Island, her home sweet home.

In the interview with James Lane Post, Sailor reflected on her transition to city life after high school. She expressed how this move deepened her appreciation for her upbringing in a rural setting. Sailor emphasized how her upbringing instilled in her a steadfast, down-to-earth mindset, which she strives to maintain regardless of life’s twists and turns.”

Sailor inked her first modeling deal with IMG Models, the very agency that manages her famous mother, in 2013. Since then, she’s graced the runways of renowned luxury labels like Dolce & Gabbana.

A standout moment came in 2019 when she not only walked in the same New York Fashion Week show as her mother but also exchanged a cheerful high five as they passed each other on the runway.

Modeling runs in the family, but Sailor didn’t consider it seriously until her teenage years. In an interview with Fashion Week Daily, she revealed that the idea of modeling didn’t occur to her until she turned 14 and people started asking why she wasn’t pursuing it.

Reflecting on her journey, Sailor expressed happiness at giving it a try, finding it enjoyable. Interestingly, her initial career aspiration was quite different; she had wanted to pursue comedy. However, she soon realized that not everyone found her sense of humor amusing.

In 2020, Sailor sparked worry among her Instagram followers after opening up about her struggles with body image. In a candid post, she shared her recent feelings of self-doubt, admitting to being upset about her cellulite and allowing negative thoughts about her body to affect her mood.

She revealed grappling with body dysmorphia and lingering tendencies from past struggles with an eating disorder.

In a later interview with ABC News, Sailor disclosed that she initially developed an eating disorder when she started her modeling career at the age of 15. She recounted being influenced by the prevailing standards in the industry, where models were celebrated for their extremely slim figures.

Seeing these models being idolized and desired by many, she felt compelled to conform to that ideal. She expressed a desire to attain the same level of recognition and admiration that came with being a petite supermodel.

In 2019, Christie participated in America’s Dancing with the Stars but faced a setback when she broke her arm during rehearsals. Instead of withdrawing from the show, her daughter Sailor stepped in to take her place.

With just three days before the show’s premiere, Sailor replaced her mother and was paired with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Despite the short notice, she managed to secure a respectable 9th place in the competition.

Fast forward to January 2024, Christie Brinkley posed for photos alongside her adult children, including her youngest, Sailor, who is 25 years old. Despite the significant age gap of nearly 45 years, Brinkley and her daughter could easily be mistaken for siblings.

The photos captured Brinkley donning a stylish red slip dress while Sailor dazzled in a shimmering backless gown, with a vibrant fireworks display serving as the backdrop.

Another photo featured Brinkley standing beside her son Jack Paris Brinkley Cook from her third marriage. Brinkley also has a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, from her second marriage to Billy Joel, but she was not present in the festivities.
